History: The Trials of the Holy Tax Accountant
Personality: At first glance it's easy to see why Castiel is called "just another dick with wings". The angels show obvious dismissive attitudes towards humans, but there is a certain amount of love. This love doesn't extend when their motives and choices are called into question. Quite a few angels have been known to lash out violently towards humans when they're questioned. Castiel seems to have this same attitude, but at the same time he lets certain things slide. It's unknown what another angel would have done if they walked into their first meeting with Dean Winchester only to be shot and stabbed. They could have easily disabled Bobby by snapping his neck. They could have done a multitude of things differently, but Castiel calmly approaches Bobby and puts him to sleep instead. He doesn't lash out when Dean tries to stab him. He simply tries to engage him. He doesn't actually appear to hold himself above humans like Uriel is seen doing so many times. He is however a little blank in the personality department at first. He has a mission and a loyalty to his father that drives him when he receives commands. It's not until he's exposed to the Winchester's that Castiel begins to come around.

His personality growth isn't something that can be summed up in some key words. Cas lacks the general definition of a personality at first. While it'd be easy to just say what he is now, but it's important to know how far he's come. He's still learning and still trying to figure things out.

Castiel's allegiances begin to shift as time passes and he starts to show that heart he's been accused of having in the later seasons. But until then Castiel's loose understanding of human culture can be troublesome for some time. The Winchester's are big fans of sarcasm which often leaves Castiel believing them to be extremely literal and taking them so. They often have to clear up mistakes in communication with him in the early seasons. He also rarely understands pop culture references even after all these years. Only the ones that Dean and Sam make really stick with him. Everything else flies over his head. Castiel understands things to a certain degree though. He knows what some stuff is, but details tend to elude him. He understands the theory, but practice is where he stumbles. His ability to pick things up though once he's witnessed them isn't too horrible. He probably wasn't a great kisser at one point, but after watching a porn in the motel room he learns real fast. Fast enough to plan one on Meg. This is all due to his exposure to the Winchester's because in the early seasons he would not have even thought to watch television in the motel room or do anything other than wait quietly.

He seems to develop a love of humans and the things that surround them. Castiel and Uriel are tasked with telling Dean they'll wipe a whole town off the map if he doesn't stop the resurrection of Samhain. Dean refuses to let them do that and later Castiel confides that he had hoped Dean would say that. The angels aren't supposed to go against Dean's orders. It was a test of Dean's battlefield abilities and one that Cas hoped wouldn't end in smiting a whole town. He reveals his doubt of Heaven and their orders to Dean. Castiel's ability to see humanity's goodness and his wariness of his orders have kind of put Castiel as the odd man out. He's no longer really seen as a true brother because of how fascinated he becomes with people. He continues to slip further and further into this new found humanity. This isn't to say that he's completely pulled into the human way of doing things. Castiel still believes in his Father, but he questions the orders that are handed down from him. He tries to follow orders, but it becomes increasingly hard once they learn of betrayal in the angelic ranks. He even questions Uriel's desire to kill Anna to save the angel's plans of stopping the seals from being broken. He doesn't understand why his former angel sister needs to be cut down, but Uriel pushes the issue enough for Castiel to go along with it. Though when Uriel tries to cut Dean down for letting Anna get away it's Castiel that holds him back from doing so. He seems to want to help even if it's still in minor ways.

Cas' progression into human emotions seems to carry on, but he doesn't quite want to admit that his alliances are shifting. Anna accuses him of human emotions and Castiel lashes out. When Sam accuses him of not having any it's Anna he goes to for answers. Castiel pushes the boundaries and starts to investigate a problem where angels keep coming up dead. He confirms earlier from Alastair that it's not demons responsible. He continues to investigate and finds that it's Uriel and a sect of angels who are Lucifer sympathizes. Castiel tries to kill Uriel, but the elder angel is no match for him. Anna has to intervene and kill Uriel for him. Castiel drops a hint for the Winchester's when Dean is searching for answers on how to save his brother. He knows he can't come right out and say what he wants, but he can leave a big enough hint for Dean to follow on his own. He even tries to appear in Dean's dream and drops him a location for a meet where hopefully he can tell him everything he knows. Unfortunately angels get to Cas first and he's taken back to Heaven to be brainwashed. Jimmy Novak, his vessel, is left standing behind to be taken care of by the Winchesters.

When Cas returns he's freshly brainwashed and back to serving Heaven once more. He even seems to have a superiority complex that all angels seem to be so fond of. Castiel is no longer the naive and questioning angel from before. He follows the orders handed down to him to the letter. He even lures Dean away and sets Sam free from the demon panic room at Bobby's place. This is later revealed to be because the angels want Lucifer freed and Sam is the only one who can break the final seal. Cas betrays Anna by giving her up to the other angels, but he appears to have a flicker of doubt in his eyes. The brainwashing can't quite hold back Castiel's feelings or his heart. When Dean is escorted to a safe area by the angels it's Castiel who comes to his rescue and allows him the exit he needs to find out where Sam is. He knows that by doing this he is declaring himself a criminal in the eyes of Heaven. His home. They get Sam's location, but Castiel must stay behind to fend off the Archangel Raphael. Castiel knows he's going to die, but it's possible he remembers Dean's words while inside the safe room.

"This is worth dying for."

Cas doesn't hesitate or flinch. He's found his loyalties.

His personality mutates even more as the seasons drag on. Castiel becomes depressed and forlorn possibly due to his link to Heaven being cut off and it seems to get worse when he discovers his Father left Heaven long ago. Castiel has declared all out war on his home because he thought it would be what his Father wanted, but he discovers his Father isn't around it breaks him. He goes so far as to drink an entire liquor store and generally seems to sink further and further into depression. Castiel abandons any faith he had in his Father and begins to become belligerent in his own way. The Winchester's sober him up, but Cas still seems to have this great weight on his chest concerning his family.

He shows his human side coming out more when Dean says he'll say Yes to Michael in the final battle. Cas feels betrayed and ultimately reacts rather violently. Cas has given up everything for Dean and his cause because he thought he believed in it. He thought Dean believed in it. Cas physically beats Dean to a pulp because of this anger. He feels betrayed by Dean's actions and later when Dean intends to say Yes he refuses to stay to see it. Instead he carves an angel banish sigil in his chest and takes out multiple angels with himself when he "ignites" it. His faith in Dean is restored though after he returns from the banishment. Dean had been intending to kill Zachariah the whole time and Castiel didn't know. He cntinues to display curious human emotions throughout the entire season. He even seems to be upset when he's sent on a mission, but his powers have completely drained. He doesn't see his usefulness, but he is just as talented without his powers as he is with them. Castiel awkwardly tries to reassure Sam that everything will be okay when Sam develops a plan to say Yes to Lucifer and then taken him down into the cage. Cas has emotions, but navigating them and knowing the proper protocol isn't something he's good at.

Cas even puts his life on the line without any powers by going up against Lucifer and Michael in order to buy Dean some alone time with Lucifer now inhabiting Dean's body. He banishes Michael, but Lucifer grows angry and blows him up in return. This is the second time Castiel is killed and the second time he's proved that dying for Dean Winchester is better than anything else he can think up.

Another personality shift happens when Cas returns to Heaven with upgraded angel mojo. He appears dedicated to his family once more, but he still has the human emotions he's acquired. He's developed a sense of freewill that he tries to explain to the other angels, but they don't believe or trust him. Castiel is unable to turn to Dean (who is grieving the loss of Sam and living a human life). He tries to navigate the murky waters of emotions and backroom deals on his own. Cas carries on for an entire year on his own. He tries to make sacrifices that don't really pan out and done seem to make much sense, but to Cas they're necessary. His alliance with Crowley is to keep the world safe with Raphael wanting power and to restart the apocalypse. When Dean does learn of his return and Sam's as well things don't really return to normal. Castiel still continues his quest for power to bring down Raphael, but he pops in on the boys.

His lack of human etiquette comes into play while hanging around the motel while the boys do research. Castiel watches porn with others in the room not understanding how awkward that would make things. When Meg kisses him to steal his Angel Sword he doesn't understand what she's doing. Because of his viewing of the porn he believes she's making a pass at him. Castiel moves in and returns the kiss only to have Meg confused. Later Dean questions if he'd want alone time with Meg, but Cas asks why he'd want that. Cas' human signals are not that good.

Cas has a thirst this season that seems to be his downfall. Power. He knows he needs power to take down Raphael and assume control of Heaven, but he knows the only way to truly get it is by obtaining souls. He makes a number of backroom deals in order to make this possible. He has Balthazar to back in time to save the Titanic for the souls. This changes history in small ways. Cas becomes almost obsessed in his desire for power. It's what drives him. It's also what drives him into the arms of Crowley to make deals with the King of Hell. These deals are figured out though and when Castiel is confronted with his misdeeds he slaughters the ones who defy him. He seems to show no long term remorse in this condition. He even slaughters Lenore (at her request) without much prompting. He's hellbent on his task and his emotions become a little too human for everyone's taste. His ultimate goal is to open the door to Purgatory and absorb all those souls in order to be strong enough to assume power. This proves that Cas has no abandoned his cause from before to stand by the Winchester's. Castiel is power hungry.

Cas' fall from grace is apparent when he kills Balthazar, his last remaining angel ally, with his back turned.

Once Cas gets the souls there's no turning back. Dean tries to reason with him, but Cas is too far gone in his power hunt. He refuses and states that Dean is no longer family. Castiel appears to have become corrupted in his hunt. It only grows worse with the souls inside of him. Cas' personality becomes irrational and unpredictable. He appears to have adopted the same firm hand stance that his brother Michael held in Heaven. He seems to have abandoned his freewill campaign and slaughters all of Raphael's past followers despite them probably swearing loyalty to Cas. Castiel becomes obsessed with being a new God. He wants to be the God that the world has been deprived of. He goes on a tour of good faith sort of and rights wrongs that he sees. His loose canon status is validated when he slaughters an entire campaign office and blacks out. He decides the souls should be put back and the Leviathans he ingested as well. They seem to be the root of Castiel's problems.

He expresses mass regret when they're about to put the souls back. He believes he's going to die in the process and tells Dean he's sorry he never helped fix Sam. He makes a promise to do it if he happens to live through this. This is the last promise Cas can make since the Leviathans later over power and kill him.

Cas returns later in the season with a new personality. He's meek and rather timid. He wants to live a quiet life with his wife he acquired. Eventually his memories return and Cas is left with mass quantities of guilt that aren't really touched on yet. In an attempt to right his wrongs Cas takes the hallucinations from Sam and puts them in his own body. He eventually slips into a coma for some time and is left alone with no one in his head but Lucifer and himself.

Another drastic personality shift happens when Cas wakes up from his coma. He's guilt ridden and hurting. This manifests into a rather dim intelligence level. He prefers to play board games than face his emotions. He adopts a pacifist nature in an attempt to wrong his rights when he abused his power. He doesn't want to cause more trouble. He even goes so far as to let another angel beat him half to death. Meg intervenes on his behalf. His relationship with Meg changes as well. He no longer sees her as just a demon. She's his caretaker and he says she is his "thorny beauty". He appears to be a boy with a crush which Meg continuously rebuffs most of the time. He appears only to respond to her calls and cares for her in bad situations. He even bargains for her life much later in the season when they're dealing with Crowley. Cas is able to leave after assisting the Winchesters and he tries to make his own path. He's almost eager to start over in an attempt to forget all the pain he caused.

Castiel eventually fesses up to Dean that he feels his resurrection is a punishment for all the pain he's caused. Castiel truly believes that God wishes for him to hurt for all eternity. His self loathing seems to be at an all time high, but he agrees to forgo his pacifist ways to help Dean in his final battle. Once again proving that he's willing to die for Dean Winchester.

Cas' original personality seems to be intact when in Purgatory, but he has so much guilt added on that he seems to have a death wish. He distances himself from Dean knowing he'll draw trouble, but Dean refuses to leave without him. Cas knows he has to lie to him in order to get his best friend to safety. He appears to have everything together, but still expresses doubts as they carry on to the exit with their new found vampire friend. He's unsure if he can escape, but Cas never intends to leave Purgatory. He sees this as his punishment for all the pain and dead bodies he left in his wake. Eventually Cas is freed and the real struggle begins.

He's grown so much since Season 1 as the slightly defiant angel. He's now guilt ridden and terrified of returning to Heaven to face his crimes. He expresses the most human emotion of all--the desire to kill oneself. Castiel tells Dean that if he goes back to Heaven and sees all the damage that it'll be too much. He knows that if he comes face to face with it that he'll not be able to fight the desire to kill himself. A desire that Cas has probably never felt in all his years of being alive. He throws himself into hunting in a desperate attempt to keep his mind and soul at ease.

After leaving the Winchester's Castiel tries to ease his broken soul by helping those truly in needs. He cures a sick baby and carries on helping. He's trying to fill a hole, but the entire time this is happening he's being controlled by Naomi. He appears to be himself, but when he's around her he answers every one of her questions despite how damaging the information could be. He knows it's wrong, but he has no freewill in the situation. Castiel's personality shifts again due to the intense indoctrination by the angel Naomi. She appears to have control of Heaven now and she plans to use Castiel and his close relationship with the Winchester's. Castiel still retains small shreds of himself even going so far as to convince Naomi to spare Meg once they locate her. His extreme liking of her seems to have not been outdone by the indoctrination. When Meg suggests they have sex in her own way Cas doesn't seem to flinch either. It takes a moment for him to grasp what she's asking and he seems to smile as if he's okay with the idea of that happening. This shows how far he's come with demons that he initially always called abominations before. Castiel has grown despite the efforts of many to stunt him.

When they discover the Angel Tablet though Castiel's switch seems to flip and go into high overdrive. He attacks Dean and begins to beat him to death to obtain the Angel Tablet. He's under strict orders from Naomi. It's only when Dean begs him to stop that Castiel relents. Dean's profound bond with him seems to have saved him. He takes control of the Angel Tablet and disappears into the wind with it not coming back for anyone. His personality seems to have been returned to him and held while in the presence of the tablet. Cas shows deep anger when he learns that Ion, an angel, has betrayed Heaven to ally himself with Crowley. He shows no remorse (towards his brethren) when he shoves a bullet (made from the Angel Blade) into his eye and kills him.

The easier way to describe Cas? He's strong and a little bit guilt ridden. Actually a lot guilt ridden. His guilt motivates him though and he tries not to let it strangle and kill him. Cas is loyal to the people he aligns himself with. If you become his friend and ask him to die for you there is a good chance he will do it. He's mild mannered at times, but that's mostly because he doesn't know how to react in certain situations. He's especially this way around humans he doesn't know. He's a little more sassy when he's around Dean Winchester, but that's just because the human drives him towards it. He's bold and still a little bit naive despite everything. He wasn't born human and therefore never had the proper instances to learn from mistakes. Mistakes in heaven were punished with brainwashing or something worse. They don't slap your hand and tell you that you messed up. Castiel is desperate though. Desperate to fix all the wrongs he's caused for the world and the Winchesters.

Abilities/Strengths and Weaknesses:

Strengths

  • Angelic Possession - As a spiritual being, Castiel needs to use a vessel while on Earth. As an angel, he requires the vessel's permission.
  • Dream Walking - Castiel appeared in Dean's dream to deliver him a message.
  • Eidetic Memory - Castiel has the face and name of every prophet etched into his memory.
  • Immortality - Castiel as an angel doesn't age and is immune to disease. He never tires, and does not need to eat, sleep, drink, or breathe to sustain himself.
  • Invulnerability - As an angel, there are very few things able to kill Castiel. He possesses accelerated healing abilities that allow him to heal wounds that would kill a human in seconds, if not instantly. He is unharmed by extreme temperatures.
  • Resurrection - Castiel brought Dean, Sam and Bobby back from the dead. Lost when he became a Fallen Angel as it came from Heaven but regained after second resurrection.
  • Sedation - Castiel can cause instant unconsciousness in humans by tapping their forehead.
  • Pyrokinesis - Castiel displays the ability to burn through ropes holding him and uses the same power to burn "Crowley's" bones.
  • Expert Swordsman - While not as physically strong as most of his angelic bretheren, Castiel is highly skilled in swordplay with angelic blades, having defeated several angels at least as powerful as him on many occasions, despite being outnumbered. Even when he began losing his powers after becoming a fallen angel, this remanined unchanged.
  • Supernatural Perception/Senses - Castiel can see things hidden to humans. He is capable of immediately discovering a person's identity or their prior medical status by simply smelling their remains, regardless of the condition of said remains. He is also capable of speaking to and understanding animals and even listen onto radio frequencies.
  • Telekinesis - Castiel can impart kinetic energy on matter with his mind. He used this to twist Ruby's Knife into Alastair's wound after having stabbed him it. He later uses this power to unscrew a bolt from a distance.
  • Telepathy - Castiel is able to read the minds of humans and lower-level angels.
  • Teleportation - Castiel can travel from one place to another instantly, without occupying the space in between. Like with all angels, this is accompanied with the sound of wings flapping.
  • Voice Mimicry - Castiel once perfectly imitated Bobby Singer's voice.
  • Protective Charm - Castiel is able to protect someone from harm beforehand, as seen when he prevented his vessel, Jimmy Novak from burning his hand on a pot of boiling water when asked for a sign of faith.
  • Apporting - Castiel is able to teleport Dean to St. Mary's Convent from Chuck's house with a touch of his hand to his forehead and later teleports him away from Zachariah to his side at a roadside.
  • Spell Casting - As an angel, Castiel has extensive knowledge of Enochian symbols and spells which he has used for a variety of effects. He could draw an Enochian Devil's Trap that could completely suppress and bound a demon as powerful as Alastair. He also knew of symbols that could banish or ward off angels. After his first resurrection, he branded Sam and Dean with a pattern of symbols that would conceal them from every angel in creation, even one as powerful as Lucifer. He later did the same to Adam.
  • Advanced Chronokinesis - Castiel now can send people back through time and bring them back without having to physically be there with them. However, the further back he sends someone, the harder it is to retrieve them. This was evidenced by the time he sent Sam and Dean to the 1800's, he could only send them for 24 hours or else he would be unable to bring them back.
  • Invisibility - Castiel can become invisible to humans.
  • Mental Manipulation - By placing his hand on a person's forehead, Castiel is able to manipulate a person's mind, being able to create, erase or alter memories or simply alter their perception of events altogether. He easily tore down the mental dam inserted by Death on Sam that protected him from the memories of him being tortured in Lucifer's Cage. Though he was unable to cure Sam from the resulting madness it caused, he was able to transfer the mental damage from Sam to himself. He is also able to show a person the true version of their memories, not just the version they choose to remember as seen when he made Dean see what really happened when he escaped Purgatory. He has also been shown to be able to enter other people's minds and take someone with him as he entered Fred Jones' mind with Sam. However, this requires him to maintain physical contact with both parties.
  • Advanced Pyrokinesis - Castiel can now no longer just create fire, but he can manipulate and extinguish it effectively.
  • Reality Warping - Cas, in one instance, altered reality, by shaking a 'Sorry' board-game, and having everything instantly set up. He was later able to fill a vial with his blood just holding it tight in his hand and not making any cuts. His highest capability in this area was when he was able to change his appearance and clothes into his original one after returning from purgatory.
  • Enhanced Superhuman Strength - Being a Seraph, Castiel has exhibited higher levels of physical strength than he did as a common angel. He was capable of overpowering humans, spirits, monsters, demons and even his angelic brethren with greater ease as seen against Raphael's soldiers or against his former friend Rachel. Though he could still be outmatched and killed by the Leviathans, Castiel proved capable of standing up against them. He was able to briefly restrain the Leviathan boss Dick Roman, after catching him off-guard, and in Purgatory managed to hold off two Leviathans, and ultimately incapacitate them with Dean's help. Castiel also proved to be strong enough to lift a 1 ton anvil with ease.
  • Advanced Smiting - Castiel's angelic killing touch became much more powerful after his resurrection. He could instantly kill several demons with great ease by using this ability. He was also capable of killing various monsters using this ability such as Lenore, or other creatures even in Purgatory. He may even be capable of killing or at least harming a Leviathan, as seen in Purgatory when he tried to do this to one, and it quickly tried to evade the seraph's touch but this is unlikely. However, more powerful beings such as the archangel Raphael, however, were immune to this power and could also extend this protection to lesser beings such as demons. It is revealed that this power burns out the eyes of the being it is used on and liquifies all of their organs.
  • Advanced Healing - Castiel has displayed the ability to not only heal any wound, but can also cure people of infections that will turn them into monsters as shown when he cured Dean of his transformation into a Jefferson Starship. Castiel also believed he could heal Kevin Tran of a cut-off finger which is later shown to be true. On one occasion while healing a gunshot wound his hand glowed though he usually heals without any visible sign besides the injury healing. However, there are some things even he can't heal. According to Castiel, Sam is damaged on the subatomic level from his trials and it is beyond his power to fix that.
  • Vessel Locking - Castiel has displayed the ability to grab a demon's smoke form and force it back into its body to smite it.
  • Proficient Torturer - Castiel was shown to be skilled at the art of torture, as seen when he tortured one of Eve's Jefferson Starships into giving him information in a matter of minutes, despite having his powers blocked by the mother of all and on another occasion, when he tortured Dr. Visyak (who had previously resisted Crowley's atempts at the same) into giving him the spell to open Purgatory.
  • Soul Reading/Channeling - By pushing his hand into a person's chest, Castiel can determine the presence and condition of a person's soul, and if the soul was branded by a deal. He can also siphon energy from or completely absorb a soul to recharge and enhance his powers. The process is extremely painful and delicate, having been noted by Castiel as putting one's hand into a nuclear reactor and causing the person to explode should anything go wrong.
  • Leviathan Perception/Sensing - Due to having been used as a vessel for the Leviathans, Castiel can see past their vessels and shapeshifting abilities and correctly identify them. This ability allowed him to identify the real Dick Roman, so he and Dean could kill him. While in Purgatory, Castiel was able to sense the presence of two nearby Leviathans before they could attack the group while Dean and Benny were completely unaware of them and later sensed two more approaching as he and Dean neared the escape portal.
  • Enhanced Astral Projection - As a Seraph, Castiel's true visage is now far more terrifying and hazardous to creatures such as humans, demons, and other earthly monsters. While projecting his true form from his vessel, his irises gained a deep and bright blue glow, his body emitted a powerful pinkish-white light and the shadows of his wings appeared on his back. Even in a weakend state, he was able to intimidate Crowley into retreat, despite the demon's position as the current King of Hell.
  • Power Removal - Castiel was able to remove Fred Jones' psychokinesis so he was no longer a threat to anyone, but as a side-effect, Fred appeared to enter a mentally-distant state which Castiel warned could happen stating that if he removed Fred's powers, he wasn't sure how much of Fred would be left. He also stated that it would be a very painful process.

Weaknesses

Harming, Misleading and Trapping
  • Holy Fire - Encased in flames created from Holy Oil, the angel is trapped. The trapped angel still can use their powers, possibly aiding them to escape. Touching the flame will kill the vessel and the angel. However, it cannot kill Michael, being only able to banish him.
  • Lucifer's Cage - Strong enough to securely contain normal angels and Archangels; it is currently holding the two strongest Archangels in existence, Michael and Lucifer. It is to be noted that Castiel was able to at least reach inside of the Cage to pull Sam out though he called the task "nearly impossible" and was only able to get Sam's body.
  • Enochian Sigils - When Enochian sigils are placed on human rib cages, they prevent any angel/archangel from detecting and finding them. They can also be used to prevent angels from entering a building by painting them on the building's walls. In Torn and Frayed, the sigils on the walls dramatically weakened Castiel's powers.
  • Hex Bags - Hex bags can used to prevent angels from detecting and finding someone (these cannot hide someone from Archangels in vessels).
  • Brain Penatration - One of Crowley's demons was able to block at least some of Samandriel's powers by placing large metal spikes into his brain.
  • Higher Demons / Large numbers of Demons- The highest Demons, Alistair, Lilith and (presumably) Azazel are able to fight, overpower, harm, and even banish lower level Angels, they can't kill them though. Significant numbers of demons (even without hosts) can also overpower angels as Crowley's army of demons was able to defeat Castiel's guards.
Banishing or destroying
  • Blood Seal - If a person places his or her hand upon this blood seal that is placed upon something then all angels in the immediate area will be banished away. An angel can activate this seal as well. If an angel activates the seal then the angel who activates the seal will not be banished along with the other angels in the area. The blood seal can also be place upon a person's body. If an angel activates the seal this way (carved into its vessel's chest), he or she will be banished along with the other angels.
  • Exorcism Chant - There is an exorcism chant to expel angels from their human vessels and send them back to heaven. It seems that the chant is not well known as the only entity to use it was Alastair. The Whore of Babylon also knew an enochian chant which causes Angels severe pain.
  • Spell to Expel all Angels from Heaven - Metatron used a spell to banish all angels from Heaven. The steps to complete the spell were to kill a nephilim, to take a cupid's bow, and take an angel's grace (Metatron took Castiel's).
  • Removing their Grace - if an angel loses its Grace, it will become human, gaining a soul.
  • Angelic Blade - An angel can be killed by stabbing him or her with an angelic blade. It seems that the angel must be stabbed in a vital area of the human body, such as the head, heart, neck, or stomach. When an angel is stabbed by an angelic blade, a burst of bright, white light is released and angel wings are burned on the surface underneath the body of the angel's human vessel.
  • Archangel Blade - Archangels seem to have their own angelic blades that are probably more powerful than normal angelic blades. It seems that a Archangel blade is capable of killing both normal angels and Archangels as shown when Lucifer killed Gabriel with his own blade.
  • Weapons of Heaven - Harms angels and archangels; so far it has been shown that a weapon of Heaven can destroy an archangel's human vessel so that it can not be resurrected as seen with Donnie Finnerman, the true vessel of Raphael.
  • Colt - Castiel believed that the Colt was the only thing that could possibly kill Lucifer. Although, a shot to the head failed to kill Lucifer, it's unknown if the Colt is capable of killing other regular angels, but as only five beings are immune to it its probable.
  • Death's Scythe - This item is said to have the power to reap any living being, whether it be human, demon, angel, and its rumored to even be able to reap Death himself. So far it has been seen to kill reapers which is an indicator that it is very powerful.
  • Leviathans - Leviathans can easily kill regular angels, as demonstrated at the end of the episode "Reading Is Fundamental" when Edgar kills Kevin's two angel escorts by sticking his fist into their chests and injecting them with black Leviathan blood. According to Castiel, one of the reasons why God locked the Leviathans up in Purgatory was because they could kill angels. They can overpower Seraphs, although not without effort. Castiel fought off several Leviathan in Purgatory, taking on more than one on at least one occasion (though was almost killed by them). However it's unknown how they compare to the Archangels.
  • Hellhounds (possibly) - Hellhounds might be able to harm or kill Angels as upon their approach Castiel ran along with Dean, Sam, Meg and two other Demons.
  • Death - As the personified of the literal concept of the end of a living entity, Death can essentially kill any type of Celestial.
  • God - God can kill any Angel on his command.
  • Eve - a being older than the angels themselves, can suppress their powers through her mere presence alone.

One other thing to note as a weakness is Castiel's overwhelming desire to fix things these days. Also his loyalty to the Winchester's. Dean Winchester has often been his downfall many times. He's never once regretted it. He also has this overwhelming desire to fix things around him and that can include people. He's no longer judgmental though he might slip up and say something offensive towards a demon who isn't Meg. He can still act like a bonehead around certain people, but ultimately he understands the desire to want to change. He's given Dean and Sam free passes unlimited times. It's safe to say he might try some human rehabilitation.

It's like a fog has been lifted. Everything inside of Castiel is no longer confused and twisted. He's felt so wrong since encountering Naomi. She's done everything in her power to use him against his friends and make him forget it ever happened. The minute his hands touched the Angel Tablet it was like everything was clear. He knew his purpose and he knew that it had to be done alone. Unfortunately that meant cutting Dean and Sam Winchester from his life. It hurt more to do it to Dean after everything. After the lies, betrayal and insanity. He lied to him again though it wasn't intentional. It was all under orders from Naomi who he never would have followed if given half the chance. Maybe that was why she did this to him. She knew she couldn't obtain his loyalty by other means. She had to manipulate it from him. Castiel had always been too unpredictable in the presence of the other angels. None of them wanted to run the risk of having a repeat performance of what happened with Raphael and his followers. Though Cas was certain he'd never go down that path again. He was already suffering from that guilt immensely.

He swallows hard while standing in the bus station bathroom. He couldn't just appear by his normal means. He had to travel on foot. He had to take it away. The mirrors were smudged and two were cracked. The bathroom smelled of urine and failed antiseptic. Paper towels were crumpled and left all over the floor. The bus would arrive soon and he could vacate. He didn't feel comfortable out in the open of the waiting area. Perhaps he needed a moment alone to look himself in the eyes after everything. To look himself in the eyes after beating Dean half to death once more. Every step Castiel takes in redeeming himself is immediately cut short and he's kicked down two more rungs. Perhaps he was right before in assuming that this was God's way of punishing him. No redemption just a failed path of blood and good intentions. It seemed hopeless until he looked down at the Tablet and then things cleared up.

Castiel can hear the bus' arrival being announced. You didn't need angel hearing the pick up the loud speaker. He wills himself away from the mirror and vacates the bathroom immediately. He walks past every quickly and heads outside. Once he's on the bus and seated then Castiel feels like he can breathe once more. He's a target to both Heaven and Hell. The scenario seems almost painfully familiar for Castiel. He reclines in his seat and tries not to think about the twisting remorse in his gut. He has a higher purpose now and it does not include helping Dean Winchester as much as he tries to fight it.
